NIRAMAYA─ Health Insurance Scheme for PwDs under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The government of India has launched a scheme named NIRAMAYA, which is a health insurance scheme to help and protect disabled people with the help of affordable health insurance. Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to cover the secure healthy life of PwDs (People with Disabilities) around India. This scheme prime target is to provide safety and preventive care to families. Through this scheme, the government tends to ensure the health and safety of the citizens through early diagnosis and treatment of ailments. Health insurance cover of up to Rs. 1.0 lakh and affordable health insurance to PwDs.

Treatment facility-

Facility for OPD treatment includes the medicines, pathology, diagnostic tests, etc. Regular Medical check-ups for non-ailing disabled, Dental Preventive Dentistry, Surgery to prevent further aggravation of disability, Non- Surgical/ Hospitalization, Corrective Surgeries for existing disability including congenital disability, Ongoing Therapies to reduce the impact of disability and disability-related complications, Alternative Medicine. Also, cover the transportation costs of an ambulance. Treatment can take from any hospital.


The financial facility in treatment:

Insurance covers up to Rs.1.0 lakh, on a reimbursement basis only. The screening and facilities in treatment would save a family’s expenses by Rs. 12000 to Rs. 15000.

Other facilities:

Have a single premium across age groups.

These health cards will contain various details, finding and health status of the beneficiary.

The scheme will turn out as a boon for the people who are not able to afford medical check-ups and treatments.


Eligibility of this scheme:

The scheme will be available in the entire country for PwDs. People will be given a Niramay Card with their health details. No pre-insurance medical tests require to avail of this scheme.


Eligibility Criteria for Registered Organisation(ROs)- All ROs of the National Trust, after paying the registration fee of Rs.1000/- could get registration under the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme of the National Trust for further enrolling the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) under the National Trust Act.


Eligibility Criteria for PwDs- All PwDs who have at least one of the disabilities under the National Trust Act, 1999 with a valid disability certificate are eligible to apply for the scheme.


Required Documents for NIRAMAYA-

  • Disability certificate with self-attested issued from the District Hospital or appropriate Government authority.
  • Address Proof.
  • BPL card (for BPL beneficiary).
  • Income certificate of the parent/guardian competent authority as issued by the State with self-attested for (Non-BPL beneficiary).
  • Legal Guardian Certificate issued from the Local Level Committee constituted under section 13 of The National Trust Act, 1999 (for without natural parents).


Fees Structure:

The enrollment fee for Below Poverty Line(BPL) applicants is 250 rupees, Non-BPL applicants pay 500 rupees and are free for PwD applicants.


Enrollment Process:

Contact the nearest Registered Organisation to send the online application form. Fill up the complete Niramaya application form online and upload the required documents to the National Trust Portal with applicable fees. After successful enrollment, a health id will be provided to each beneficiary by the government, and then the E-card can print through the website. Any beneficiary enrolled insurance during any month of the financial year will be covered up to 31st March.

Claim Settlement Process:

Within 30 days of treatment or discharge from the hospital submit the prescribed claim form along with relevant bills. The claim form can be downloaded from The National Trust portal and sent to the Third Party Administrator Raksha TPA Pvt. Ltd.


Guidelines for Claim Settlement

  1. Copy of Niramaya card or mention Health ID No.
  2. Self-Attested copy of Disability Certificate.
  3. All original prescription papers were given by the doctor.
  4. All original bills of Hospital / Medicine / Doctor fee / Therapy fee / Conveyance etc.,
  5. All reports in Original.
  6. Complete bank details of Beneficiary: Account No. / Bank Name / Branch (City & State)
  7. IFSC Code.
  8. Name of Account Holder.

Renewal Process of Niramaya Scheme

The renewal process starts every year from 1 April and is valid till 31 March of next year. The renewal application must submit three months before the validity end of the scheme. The renewal of policy has to be done online through www.thenationaltrust.gov.in by the beneficiary or NGO with the required documents above mentioned & the fee has to be paid, as per the applicable rate (fixed by National trust) directly in the Bank.
